50th Anniversary Tour – Thursday February 25th – Showtime 7:30 pm

The band was founded in Canada in Toronto but first became known on American television in the 60s. As guests on shows like The Tonight Show, The Smothers Brothers Show, Mike Douglas Show, The Virginian, The Dating Game (George Millar actually won the date), they gained experience before hosting their first of three international television series, “The Irish Rovers Show” for the CBC.  Over the next twenty years they became staples of the Canadian and world music scene with two more international television series, representing Canada at World Expos and a vigorous world touring schedule. At that time, fans enjoyed their early hits like Black Velvet Band, The Unicorn, Whisky on a Sunday and Wasn’t That A Party.

The touring has continued for the lads until today and these days, they’ve gone viral with Drunken Sailor! On St. Patrick’s Day, while their concert was filmed, and broadcast into Nanaimo’s Diana Krall Plaza for the city’s first St. Patrick’s Day festival. SHAW TV was on site filming behind the scenes and the resulting documentary, “The Irish Rovers 50th Anniversary Special” complete with music and interviews can be viewed now on Shaw VideoOnDemand.

The Rovers have put together the best music of their legendary career in a triple CD set, aptly named “The Irish Rovers, 50 Years”. Also, after nearly 40 years of waiting, the Rovers have just released their second Children’s album, “Songs for the Wee Folk” all available at concerts! Everyone will have the chance to meet the band, as they will be signing autographs in the lobby after the concert!

The days of the long tours are finally coming to an end for these Irish lads as they are now completing one last world tour. After that, they will rove again only for special events, festivals and longer stays. International touring will happen only on a very limited scale. At concerts, fans will enjoy a mix of their hits, rollicking Jigs and Reels, plus hilarious stories from their years on the road.
